After training as an advertising clerk and studying sociology, sports and media sciences, Kathrin Spaniol studied dance at the European Dance Development Center (EDDC) in Arnhem/NL. As a dancer she worked with various choreographers such as Carlos Cortizo, Rui Horta as well as at the Städtische Bühnen Münster. In 2001 she won the 1st prize „Tendances“ in Luxembourg together with Morgan Nardi. She participated in the „Laboratoire Dance Link CH &NRW“ in Lausanne as well as in the Artist Labor of the festival kairobeirut. From 2007 to 2015, co-produced by tanzhaus nrw, she developed her own choreographies, which received great attention at numerous national and international festivals, including Milan and Taipei. A recurring approach in her work is the humorous and poetic exploration of individual and collective human failure. Together with Morgan Nardi, she created the plays „Flop“ (2016), „Deluxe“ (2017) at the Düsseldorf Kunstraum as well as „Das geheime Projekt“ (2019) and „Laudatio“ (2020), co-produced by the FFT at the FFT Kammerspiele, in the last 5 years. Kathrin Spaniol is also a lecturer for modern and contemporary dance.
