Evil is fascinating. Dystopia provokes shock and curiosity. They remain gripping, and we shudder before a bleak future. Yet, reality soon threatens to overpower even the gloomiest visions of the future. Choreographic duo Kathrin Spaniol and Morgan Nardi have been producing a dystopian series, in various formats, over the course of three years. The first Schattenblick (meaning Shadow Gaze) season – consisting of three video episodes –, scrutinises the narrative and depiction of evil. What constitutes this fascination? Is evil only a construct? Is it instructive or healing when we encounter it in art? They invite their audience to a communal binge-watching event into the FFT foyer. They pull us into a surging swirl of perfidious fiction and symbols of the inexplicable. We are watching together, start a conversation, and, maybe, we will notice: We are not alone.
