“Europe is indefensible,” wrote Aimé Césaire, the inventor of the “Négritude”, at the outset of the 1950s, with a view towards the unsolved problems of “Western civilisation”: The exploitation of the endemic population as well as that of the rest of the world, the proletariat problem, as well as that of colonialism. Don’t you think it is remarkable that Paul Lafargue, one of the protagonists during the Paris Commune, had a Creole background? And if you do: Why is that, exactly? Schwabinggrad Ballet / Arrivati pose a question for the missing pieces in the familiar counter-history narratives, and what could be done together, despite all the differences. The diverse collective moves about both on the street as well as in institutionalised space, producing music, choreography, and agitprop. The members’ experience with mechanisms of ostracism and appropriation enter into their actions.
