Since 2014, Schwabinggrad Ballett has been working together with the group Arrivati – an association of refugees and people of color. On demos and in interventions on the street, the two collectives have developed a kind of experimental dance music, played on instruments that can be dragged onto the street: Junk drums, analog synthesizers, melodica, glockenspiel, congas, nineties samplers or the Böhmat, a sixties organ machine of Brechtian format. The album „Beyond Welcome“ was created from these musical drafts. It deals with the border regime, with jazz, post-punk, electronic Afro-Kraut music, with Germans and non-Germans, with coming together beyond a culture of welcome, with persevering without papers, with social dances, with NATO, with Yoruba gods, with Eurocentrism, with the impossibility of thinking about another world, let alone being able to enforce it.
