Verena Billinger & Sebastian Schulz

Choreographer duo

In their works, Verena Billinger and Sebastian Schulz deal with society, the public sphere, and the choreographic constitutions of humans. For the artistic modeling and staging, they position the body’s role at the centre. They perceive its movements as carrier and life signs. They interrupt and process choreographic conventions with conceptual assertions and develop alternative proposals they then play through. They consistently work multi- and interdisciplinary in different forms and deformations of forms (choreographies, performances, installations, collages and so forth). Always starting from their dealings with dance and choreography as well as their history, they analyse identity and difference, tensions, conflicts, emotion and affect. They lend visibility to bodies and physicalness and work on the space in which bodies can become visible.
