as part of Peer to Peer

01.09. – 02.09.2023

Nature and technology are often considered to be opposites. Their actual relationship turns out to be much more complex. Together with, we inaugurate the Peer to Peer event series. The entanglements between landscape and technology, urban planning and nature, the effects of digitisation and the relations between the human and other species will be negotiated in performances, installations, workshops, and talks. The series will move on afterwards, providing insight into North Rhine-Westphalia’s diverse media art landscape in Cologne, Havixbeck near Münster, and Essen.

The passenger pigeon was eradicated more than a century ago. There are no extant sound or video recordings of the animal. It is now given a techno-intense farewell ritual. Anan Fries invites us to a tender-eerie encounter between human and non-human animals. Amidst the human-made extinction-level event, R.I.P. celebrates the finite nature of all existence and queries for the political potential of possible resurrection. Resurrect in Peace is a ceremonial admission of guilt, a lament in computer graphics. Three performers are the masters of ceremony, their movements transformed into digital data via motion tracking. Their bodies connect the virtual with the physical reality and those present with those absent.
