Epicdermis

Humans are of the genus Homo hapticus: fumbling, feeling creatures. The skin is the sensitive boundary between the I and the world. It is protection as well as a simultaneous gateway into the innermost level – to emotion, movement, and mood. The skin is also the human body’s largest organ, and we learn to feel and to fumble before we learn to hear, smell, or taste. EpicDermis is a dance about the skin, about affection and danger, about intimate and strange issues, about injury and care. Maura Morales’ current choreography tells a powerful yet tender tale of isolation and the need of being touched. Five dancers, accompanied by michio’s live music, enter a bold choreography between the innermost self and the outer world, between conflict and contact.
