The FFT nourishes longstanding connections to artists in Düsseldorf, in Germany, and throughout the world. But how does a new work enter the repertoire? The west off and Freischwimmen programmes play an important part in this. west off lends support to new groups from North Rhine-Westphalia just starting out on the independent scene. The network provided by Freischwimmen works in a very similar way – on an international level, and it has been doing that for the past 20 years.

Alex Franz Zehetbauer

an evening with

Concert + Performance Music & Sound Theatre & Performance

Alex Franz Zehetbauer transforms the format of the classical concert of vocalist at the piano, presenting an experimental performative approach that frees itself from the codes of the recital. Traversing different moods and registers, from poetic lullaby to folk song to pop rendition, An Evening with investigates the multiple roles of songs and their cultural impacts. In this performance, from which emanates an enchantment that sometimes slips into the absurd, he creates a closeness at once strange and familiar, stretching the song into various choreographic postures.

Alex Franz Zehetbauer (born 1990 in Brooklyn) is a sonic choreographer, performance artist, and singer. Critics have called him: an angel, a swamp monster, and a red-eyed demon. He studied at the Experimental Theater Wing at NYU Tisch School of the Arts and the International Theater Workshop in Amsterdam. Alex has been awarded the BKA Startstipendium für Musik und Darstellende Kunst (Start Stipend for Music and Performing Arts) (2018) and the danceWEB Scholarship (2019). Recent works include: Brunnentroll (2021), a concert performance in public fountains funded by KÖR —Kunst im Öffentlichen Raum; wet dreaming at 52Hz (2019), AyH (2021/2023), and hearing the wild heart (2022), which were co-produced by brut Vienna.
