Am Sonntag essen wir friedensmäßigen Streuselkuchen

Live-Hörstück Dance Theatre & Performance

They both live in crisis-ridden times: Steffi’s grandma after the Second World War, and Steffi in the present. While everything was destroyed after the war – morale, houses, the currency, the bodies –, the artist is now situated in a world in which the basis of all livelihoods becomes scarce: The planet is on general strike, the privatisation of common property in full swing.

Am Sonntag essen wir friedensmäßigen Streuselkuchen is a live audio play based on personal letters from 1946/47. In a fabric meshing her grandma’s original quotes, philosophical thoughts from Abraham Joshua Heschel, Walter Benjamin, and Andreas Malm, personal commentary and diary entries, performer Steffi Günther attempts to engender relation: to the 24-year-old I of her late grandmother, to the post-war period, to questions of religion and transcendence, to the climate crisis, to a sense of guilt and of time in our present age, and to the question for (im)possible futures.

cast

Steffi Günther is active as a performer, theatre-maker, and musician in North Rhine-Westphalia;

Maximilian Mandery as a dramaturge and theatre pedagogue in Hamburg. They use their label shocking true for collaborative work at the crossroads of installation, didactic plays, theatre, and music. They explore horror, fun, and cruelty through art. They deal with the social positioning of the contemporary arts therein and ask for their critical potential.
