2024 is a global super election year. According to the polls, populist parties might prove to be especially successful; those parties that regularly attack liberal democracy itself. Yet the anti-democratic success is not a done deal yet. The achievements of pro-democratic alliances against right-wing populist parties in Poland, Spain, or the Netherlands are proof that a different outcome is possible.

Der Grüne Salon gathers scientists and politicians from Poland, the Netherlands and Germany to take a closer look: What led to favourable results against right-wing populism in those countries? How may democracies fortify themselves against their enemies? And what does a policy look like that denies populists space for growth?
