Coming from the concept of providing a stage to crossover artists on the piano and from within the world of keyboards, the Approximation Festival at the Salon des Amateurs at Kunsthalle Düsseldorf emerged way back in 2005. Composer in Residence Bryce Dessner’s new compositions or Fågelle’s electrifying sounds still resonate from November 2022, as do other performances. Renowned for musical premieres by composers (Sigur Rós’s Alex Somers as well as The National’s Bryce Dessner held the “Composer in Residence” position so far), there will be another premiere this year: For the first time, the 18th edition of the experimental Approximation Festival will take up guest residence at the FFT.

Düsseldorf composer and pianist Volker Bertelmann, having won an Oscar for his work this year, will curate as usual, bringing special artists to the Approximation Festival. At the FFT, the festival will be back concentrating on intimate capacities, a “back to the roots” approach, which will only serve to make the individual concerts even more exclusive. We are looking forward to discovering this year’s artists over the two-day duration.
