Approximation Festival 2024

Konzerte Music & Sound

The Approximation Festival presents eight concerts plus DJ sets over the course of three days. The music it will feature unites future and tradition, and it will sound like a world in transition. This year’s edition will directly start with Dutch artist William Engelen’s video installation À la Gould, realised in cooperation with and through the support of the KAI 10 I Arthena Foundation. The work focuses on piano legend Glenn Gould and his extraordinary individuality.

Emeka Ogbohs’s compositions emerge live from sounds taken from the pulsating life on the streets in Nigerian megacity Lagos. The sound ambience of this most chaotic city on earth fuses with electronic dub sounds.
Mexican cellist Mabe Fratti and her band go on tone journeys that lead from historically informed music practice to the Latin American traditions in current rock music.

The prepared piano in American musician Kelly Moran’s mesmerising compositions lead us back to the festival’s origins, founded by Volker Bertelmann AKA Hauschka and artist Aron Mehzion at the Salon des Amateurs in 2005.
