a woman must have money and a room of her own… therefore, enlightened women simply must go ahead and topple the government… making hundreds of stories and genders bloom… to embrace masturbation… because bitches are beautiful… and we have nothing to fear – except our fear.

Manifestos have been accompanying feminist movements since their very outset. Their authors critique the status quo, imagine new futures, call for a solidary “we”, and pose demands. When Virginia Woolf, in her 1929 manifesto “A Room of One’s Own”, called for money and a room of one’s own for every woman, she would most likely not have imagined that the struggle for rooms, access, and independence would be ongoing almost one hundred years later.

So, many feminist manifestos of the past century still read as surprisingly contemporary. In the installation, the visitors individually encounter an archive of texts, sounds, images, and a stage equipment ensemble. Together with an artificial intelligence, they put the puzzle pieces of past fights into new contexts.

</A “Manifesto” of= {every} One.s Own> asks how collective political action may become conceivable in spaces shaped by code and computers. Feminist theatre collective Swoosh Lieu examines the possibilities of a utopian future, following the traces of feminist history.
