World Relation in Upheaval

Our present is marked by the challenges of ecological transformation and the attempts to restructure global space. We are driven by the rapid development of artificial intelligence and the emergence of the newest information and data regimes. At the same time, we observe a remarkable revival of space flight coupled with new colonisation and exodus fantasies. Is there a connection between these phenomena – beyond their simultaneous occurrence? And what is their link to the resurgence of authoritarian governmental regimes and the erosion of public space?

To pursue these questions, it is not sufficient to discuss present-day problems in topical framings separately. They rather attest to a profound change that touches our relationship to the world. This upheaval in our relationship to the world is not just impending – we are indeed right in the middle of it. In its course, terms of human being and nature, of human and non-human life, even previous concepts of politics and the public sphere start to stumble. With the situation of the human being on the Earth body, the notion of inhabiting a shared world is cast into dubious question.

The event series therefore aims to shed light on the present challenges within their large-scale references. In lectures and talks, we will explore how ecological and technological transformations intervene into the image that humans draft of themselves and the world. Can we derive different tasks and urgencies, other solutions from this, aside from those that the usual crisis discourse produces?
