Trotzdem Tanzen

The world is a complicated and a hard place. It seems almost impossible to be young in it and to retain any levity, and it is even harder to grow and to grow strong in it. Yet the hardest thing is to grow big and to remain light. The theatre space in pulk fiction’s latest performance becomes a training ground for more levity: Between soft mats and hard protective gear, two performers defy melancholia, overexertion, and excessive demands. Two bodies in the here and now try out resistance. The performers tell us about the world, cancel social powers together and build something we all need: The courage to do it anyway!

pulk fiktion won the 2025 George Tabori Award for their work in theatre for a young audience. With this, their work received high recognition, because said prize is the most renowned German award for independent theatre. For TrotzdemTanzen, pulk fiction collaborates with both Deaf performer Pia Katharina Jendreizik as well as with Deaf coach and choreographer Dodzi Dougban for the first time. So, this marks the first pulk production for a Deaf and a hearing audience. Together with performer Sophia Schroth, TrotzdemTanzen – under the direction of Hannah Biedermann and with Elisabeth Hofmann’s choreography – celebrates the power of female-read bodies.

The term “Deaf” will consistently be written in upper-case characters to express solidarity with the Deaf community.
