Showdown

Eine Übung des Erbstreits (An exercise in inheritance dispute)

Performance Social/Urban Movements Theatre & Performance
Auf der Bühne feiern rund 12 Menschen mit Gläsern, ein blau gemustertes Banner im Hintergrund. Vor ihnen ein Publikum.

In Germany alone, several hundred billion Euros of private wealth are bequeathed and inherited annually. But not everyone is lucky enough to be descended from a prosperous family. That is a contributing factor to social inequality in Germany. But apart from property and assets that are passed on, there is also debt, trauma, and family conflict. At the start of the new season at the FFT, we ask for ways to minimise inequalities and invite you: Form new communities of heirs with us!

subbotnik morph the social tensions around inheritance into a game. In Showdown, inheritance becomes a question that concerns us all. Who receives what? Who will walk away empty-handed? And what does it even mean to pass something on? A citizens’ choir lends voices and space to different perspectives. It opens the view unto new, utopian forms of community. The stage is a constantly shifting space of negotiation. Between show format and musical theatre, the audience will be invited to become part of a new community of heirs.

Multiple award-winning group subbotnik embodies poetical musical theatre beyond classical forms. Their works move between live audio plays, concerts, and narrative performance – always on the lookout for collective experience and unheard-of questions.
