How nice is it to know one can achieve anything by oneself? Repair what is broken, living on one’s own, working, deciding. Yet when does this good feeling shift despite all this autonomy? Because how nice is it to work with others, to laugh, to do. In her performance, Evgenija Gercui tests the benefits and the boundaries of independence. Where do we stand alone, and where do we find helping hands? Where is the group raising the child – or, at the very least, the group helping with moving house? Between performatively processing everyday life and the autonomous aspects of creating theatre, topics such as neighbouring, individualism and the search for community are negotiated.

Evgenija Gerciu studies Theatre Sciences and Russian Culture at Ruhr University Bochum. In her work as a theatre educator, she examines the potential in the interaction between individuality and community. Her focus lies in the fields of direction, scenography, and theatre education. In her works, she humorously depicts what she encounters in everyday life – emotions, social structures, and reverie.
