Until a moment ago, she was a child playing with her friends in the schoolyard, but then this pulling in the breasts and in the belly starts. The inside does no longer fit the outside; the body does no longer fit how she feels. And suddenly, there are those stares. Every gaze a strain, every sentence a burden, until all ease is lost.
Mädchenschrift is simultaneously description, (self)exploration, and manifesto – the rebellion of a young woman against the ascriptions and impositions, the evaluations and the harassment that are all supposed to keep her small, strangling her.
