Two women, one road trip, and the question: What is the meaning of life? Lisa Roy captures the millennial attitude towards life in her new novel.
Jana Doktor is almost thirty, newly separated, and temporarily moved back in with her parents. Her doctoral thesis is going nowhere fast, she is pregnant following a one-night stand, nothing is quite that golden right now. She does not want to confide in her brother, the only person really near to her; he has himself become a father only recently. In a Cologne snack bar, she meets a woman who is so very different compared to herself: Self-assured and clear. Yet Miral also stands at a crossroads. On the spur of the moment, they both head for a road trip to Italy that holds an unexpected experience for Jana, following a clandestine sip of holy water: Is it an epiphany? Or is she slowly losing her mind?
Lisa Roy tells her tale about the search for meaning and belonging , for belief, family, love, and friendship in a complex world using a laconic and warm-hearted tone.

Lisa Roy was born in Leipzig in 1990 and grew up in the Ruhr Area. She studied in Dortmund and Cologne and has published in various literary magazines and anthologies. She received the Rolf Dieter Brinkmann Stipend of the City of Cologne as well as the GWK Support Prize for her debut novel “Keine gute Geschichte” (“Not A Good Story”) in 2021. Lisa Roy lives in Cologne with her family.
