Klang & Realität #2 (Sound & Reality #2)
Concert Digital Culture Music & Sound
The new Klang & Realität series presents a multi-layered selection of sound and musical realisations from participants in the eponymous degree programme at the Institute for Music and Media at Robert Schumann conservatory.
Phillip Schulze curates acoustic works, music groups, and sound installations ranging from experimental to pop, structure to freedom, fiction to reality.
Performing in this installment: Nathalie Brum, kitno
Nathalie Brum is a sound and media artist as well as an architect. She has been living and working in Cologne since 2014. Her work unifies sound and space. She loves flowing transitions: From everyday life to art, from the concrete to the enigmatic, from the technical to the poetic. Brum perceives her site-specific installations as an instrument for spatial awareness and spatial appropriation. She transforms sounds of hidden infrastructure into electroacoustic compositions. The sites are diverse: Public swimming pools, motorway roadside churches, city squares, opera houses. She graduated in architecture at RWTH in 2014, followed by her graduation in Transmedia Forms at the Institute for Music and Media at RSH Düsseldorf in 2021. She received the Young Artists’ Support Grant of the State of North Rhine Westphalia in the visual arts field in 2022.
kitno are three voices in exchange, sometimes affectionately whispering, roaring menacingly at other times, soon to be shrieking and quarreling, only to reconcile again and to tell a story. With guitar, drums, and no input mixing, the trio veers between electronic ambient, algorithmic krautrock, and polyrhythmic noise pop.
The grapefruits Fanzine celebrates the publishing of its eighth issue on this evening. The magazine has already been in publication for five years. The current edition is dedicated to the topic of the voice. It contains contributions on Anjeline, Arca, Lucrecia Dalt, Sanni Est, Holly Herndon, Sofia Jernberg, Minwhi Lee, Poly Styrene, Verity Susman, and Tenesha The Wordsmith. During the event, the authors will present the eighth issue as part of a listening session in which they introduce texts on the artists portrayed while listening to their music together with the audience.
