Horizontaler Gentransfer is about transmission beyond traditional forms of inheritance. Young punk band HGT was founded in Stuttgart in 2022 by six artists (Mizi Lee, Seonha Park, Jerry Ahn, Yun Park, Lilian Gonzalez, Hanseo Oh) with transnational biographies.

Using text, music and visual elements, they conduct research on fashion, infection and migration. Contrary to the dominant, vertical form of passing on genetic material from parents to their offspring, the name of the band refers to experimental mixing „between species“. In this way, they cross punk with K-pop and art pop. Horizontally between stage and audience, experiences and emotions are also transmitted at their concerts. We confess: We were instantly lovestruck!

Mizi Lee (*1990, Changwon, South Korea) uses all types of media and crosses the boundaries of all disciplines to create a unique experience. Sometimes, she will set up a fake supermarket to print catalogues full of artworks, sometimes she screams in a punk band in Berlin’s Kulturbrauerei or in old carriages at Stuttgart’s Nordbahnhof. Her work is interdisciplinary and collective because she believes that more than just one artist is needed to create works of art. In 2022, she founded punk band Horizontaler Gentransfer and conceives projects by the dozen with it, all lying at the intersection of visual arts, performance and theatre. She holds a bachelor’s degree in Painting (Hongik University, Seoul) and completed her diploma in Fine Arts at ABK Stuttgart with Nadine Bracht, Werner Schüle, Enno Lehmann, Claudia Heinzler, Solveig Fröhling, Jonghyun Park, Martin Lutz, Nobert Kull, Thomas Breitenfeld, Daniel Mijic, Justyna Koeke, Tilmann Eberwein, Prof. Bier, Prof. Roggan, Prof. Roob, Prof. Thomas, and Schorsch Kamerun.
