A woman looks at the ocean and waits. For a ship, for messages, for change. For their new piece, Theater der Klänge undertook a voyage to very different, varying European coasts: from the icy Barents Sea in Norway to the historically distinguished Greek isles to the windswept Basque region beaches in Spain. Everywhere, they met women whose identity was intertwined with the ocean. Workers in a fish factory, mariners, those who wait. From their physical and emotional states, choreographer Jacqueline Fischer devised characters and images – always on the lookout for a poetic compression of real-life stories.

THEATER DER KLÄNGE was founded as an independent music and dance theatre in Düsseldorf in 1987. The ensemble operates as a professional artists’ theatre that has been developing innovative multimedia stage formats since its inception. Artistic and organisational direction lie with composer and stage director Jörg U. Lensing as well as with choreographer Jacqueline Fischer. Their artistic work has expanded to encompass several other media since 1997. In this context, they produced books, video documentaries, feature films, DVD’s, music CD’s, audiobooks as well as, most recently, a virtual theatre format. Additionally, the collective has been cooperating with various European partners in the field of youth and adult education since 2016. The ensemble has been running its own artistic administration office, workshops and a rehearsal studio in Düsseldorf-Pempelfort since 1991. THEATER DER KLÄNGE has been the recipient of continuous support from the Cultural Department of the State Capital of Düsseldorf since 1987 as well as from the State of North Rhine-Westphalia since 1991.
