Bärchen und die Milchbubis delivered the punk slogan for the times with their “Jung kaputt spart Altersheime” (“Broken young saves retirement homes”) at the outset of the 80s. Carrying plenty of pop appeal, the band acts on the brink to Neue Deutsche Welle. “Ich will nicht älter werden!” (“I don’t want to grow older!”), they proclaimed on their debut album “Dann macht es Bumm” (“Then It Goes Boom”) (1981). They did grow older, yet they have not softened one bit, because enough reasons remain to be angry as well as to party. More than 40 years later, they follow up with their sophomore album “Die Rückkehr des Bumm” (The Return of the Boom”)!
Driven by trumpet and saxophone hooks, Die netten Jungs von nebenan present songs to sing and dance to, based on punk rock, but likely to veer off into neighbouring genres. Linus Volkmann described their music as power pop between Montreal and Turbostaat. Equally diverse in their choice of topics, the band settles on a pleasingly straightened out tone between slapstick, irony, and social consciousness and critique. At least since their thrilling shows supporting BUTTERWEGGE and the gigs at Düsseldorf’s PuPaPo Festival, still resonating within the scene, are DNJVN the talk of the town throughout North Rhine-Westphalia (and well beyond). Diverse and ambitious horn-driven punk which will hopefully reach even greater circles now.
