No turnaround in Düsseldorf housing policy

The Düsseldorf housing market officially counts as strained, while an increasing housing shortage actually persists. The housing policy agreed upon by the Greens and CDU in their coalition agreement will not, according to the assessment of the Bündnis für bezahlbaren Wohnraum, meet the great challenge to provide affordable, adequate, and secure housing for all Düsseldorf citizens.

Therefore, the Bündnis invites all tenants and all those interested in housing policy to an information and discussion event. The announcements made in the coalition agreement between the CDU and the Greens will be confronted with the reality of the Düsseldorf housing market. This reality will also be made clear by affected tenants sharing their perspectives.

The Bündnis will outline its most important housing policy proposals while opening them for debate. This includes in its very essence withdrawing living spaces, as a means to satisfy an elementary fundamental need, from the marketplace. The organisers would like to enter into a debate with their audience about how to achieve this and which partial steps might be necessary and useful on the path, hoping for a lively participation and many worthwhile impulses.

cast

Bündnis für bezahlbaren Wohnraum Düsseldorf is an association of engaged people who might be active in several other contexts (initiatives, organisations, parties) while the Bündnis itself remains independent from any party policy affiliations. The Bündnis draws attention to housing grievances through exemplary action. It wants to induce more movement into local politics to invest itself further on behalf of affordable and secure housing within the city. The Bündnis supports and connects those who are affected and empowers them to stand for their own interests.
