Monika Gintersdorfer

director

Monika Gintersdorfer studied German language and literature and theater, film and television studies in Cologne and directing in Hamburg. She is co-founder of the actionist artist group Rekolonisation and director of the German-French-West African theater/performance group Gintersdorfer/Klaßen, founded in 2005, with productions at the Volksbühne Berlin, Kampnagel Hamburg, FFT Düsseldorf, sophiensaele Berlin, Schauspiel Köln, Ringlokschuppen Mülheim, Deutsches Theater Berlin and many other venues in Africa, Europe and Australia. Gintersdorfer/Klaßen frequently collaborate with KVS Brussels in Kinshasa.

In 2010 they organized the festival Rue Princesse in Abidjan, Berlin and Hamburg. In 2011 they toured West Africa with their series „Logobi“. For the 2012/2013 and 2013/2014 seasons, Gintersdorfer/Klaßen were Artists in Residence at Theater Bremen, funded by the German Federal Cultural Foundation as part of the Doppelpass program. Gintersdorfer/Klaßen have received numerous awards for their work: Winner Impulse Festival 2009, George Tabori Förderpreis 2010, Dance Company of the Year 2010, Faust Prize as best dancer for Richard Siegal in Gintersdorfer/Klaßen Logobi 05, Caroline Neuber Prize for Monika Gintersdorfer 2016.
