IMPULSE THEATER FESTIVAL 2023

The Impulse Theatre Festival has been the most important platform for the independent performing arts in the German-speaking countries for more than 30 years. We will be hosting the SHOWCASE this year, presenting the productions selected by the jury at the FFT and at various other locales throughout Düsseldorf.

The festival will open at our spaces with JUSTITIA! Identity Cases from Vienna, a fast-paced show on the relation between theatre, justice, and online pillory – inspired by bestselling novelist Mithu Sanyal’s book “Identitti”. Afterwards, you can start a summerly festival journey through the city to discover exceptional independent scene positions. This will feature collective Henrike Iglesias with FLAMES TO DUST, Boris Nikitin with Magda Toffler, Sahar Rahimi/Theater at the station with DUDES finally shut up, Sinfonie des Fortschritts (Symphony of Progress) by Nicoleta Esinencu, and Expect a Tiger by Nadja Düsterberg as well as subbotnik, among others.

Furthermore, a STADTPROJEKT (CITY PROJECT) forms in Cologne; and the Impulse-AKADEMIE (Impulse ACADEMY) will take place in Mülheim this year. We, together with the festival, are going to try out a solidary pricing system for the first time.

IMPULSE THEATRE FESTVAL is organised and supported by the NRW KULTURSekretariat, together with the cities of Düsseldorf, Cologne, and Mülheim an der Ruhr, in cooperation with FFT Düsseldorf, studiobühneköln, and Ringlokschuppen Ruhr. The festival receives significant funding from the Ministry for Culture and Sciences of the State of North Rhine-Westphalia and the Federal Commissioner for Culture and the Media, and Kunststiftung NRW.
