Nicoleta Esinencu (b. 1978, Chișinău, USSR / Republic of Moldova) lives and works as a writer and director in Chișinău. After a fellowship at the Akademie Schloss Solitude in Stuttgart, she became internationally known with „FUCK YOU, Eu.ro.Pa!“ and won the Romanian dramAcum Theater Prize. The artist has been a guest several times at the Leipzig Book Fair and the Berlin International Literature Festival. In 2009, she was invited as one of 16 playwrights by the Goethe-Institut for the project „After the Fall – Europe after 1989“. In 2010 Esinencu co-founded the independent initiative teatruspălătorie, which was born out of the need to create an alternative art space in Chișinău where artists* could act and react in relation to the political and social events in the Republic of Moldova. Since the venue had to be closed in 2017, the women’s collective teatruspălătorie has continued its work without its own stage.
